Stieg Larsson (1954-2004) was a Swedish journalist and novelist. He was dedicated to exposing right wing extremism, racism and fascism, and contributed to Searchlight, a British anti-fascist magazine. He also campaigned against violence towards women.

Tragically, in 2004 Larsson died of a heart attack at his desk at the age of fifty, shortly after the publication of the first book in his Millenium Trilogy, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Both this and the second book in the series, The Girl Who Played with Fire, have received widespread critical acclaim, and postuhumously Larsson has become a bestselling and award-winning novelist. The final book in the trilogy, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest, will be released in September 2009.
