Sylvia Plath was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1932. Path is best known as a poet. Her poem “Daddy” is probably her most famous, and draws upon the relationship she had with her strict father who died when path was only eight. Plath suffered from depression which in 1953 led to an unsuccessful suicide attempt. However, Plath a gifted student and she graduated from Smith College in 1955 and moved to Cambridge, England, on a Fulbright scholarship, where she met and later married Ted Hughes. Plath’s novel The Bell Jar, can be read as semi-autobiographical; describing the pain she suffered in trying to marry her talent with her home life. In 1963 Plath committed suicide.
