i adore everything about this book, from the title, to the constantly-revealing nature of the plot, down to the many eccentric personalities. it was the first non-fiction book i ever came across that didn't read like a textbook, and i was charmed...

I nominated this one for my reading group and everyone enjoyed it. Got me started reading more books about the South and for that alone it was worth reading. Wonderful larger than life characters and events make this a fun and interesting read.
