Gave up after about 200 pages as it went so slow. Enjoyed the way it was written but couldn't go on.

Dostoevsky makes a good point, but in the process writes the most miserable book in existence. It was a relief to finish.

Features the most likable murderer in literary history. This book is vivid, intoxicating, bursting with ideas and perfectly imagined characters.

I really tried to like this, and I did after a fashion. But I just thought Raskolnikov was such a prat.

This book has so many levels and is so brilliantly complex that years after reading it I still think about it on occasion and draw connections with it from other books. It's truly a grand social commentary about Russia's dark past, class structure, and is told in a morose style that further exemplifies the prose.

I was a little disappointed by the ending, but thoroughly enjoyed all the bits leading up to it.
