To mark Halloween, we're running a poll to find the greatest horror/paranormal book ever. Nominate your favourite book with a scary or paranormal theme in this forum, and tell us why you've chosen it. Your nominations can be old or new, a classic ghost story or something a bit different. From Mary Shelley to Laurell K. Hamilton to Darren Shan, we want to hear your top spine-chilling reads! On the 23rd October we will create a poll on the NEWS page using all your nominations, and members can then vote for the best scary book of all time. The result will be announced on the 29th October!

Has to be "The Shining" Stephen King - I read this many years ago, but I will never forget it. The movie could not even touch the depth of the book - it had too many images to include in the time constraints.

Storm of the Century by Stephen King. just the thought of the lottery. the children in limbo, parents being forced to endure the torture of turning a child over to the beast to save the other children. Or lose them all. Shivers

I would have to say Dracula, obvious I know, but it is my favourite Gothic/horror/paranormal novel. I love the eerie settings and the diary format of the novel makes it that more persoanl so that you hope the characters will survive. Also i think it being set mostly in Victorian London adds to the eerieness of the novel and of course at the beginning in Translyvania, could you ask for a better setting to begin a horror novel? Not that it scared me particularly, but it definately gets top marks for creepiness and it's spine-chilling factor, and of course it paved the way for for a whole genre of books, films and even halloween costumes!
