I have read a number of history novels about French history and or of French people through history. So it was with excitment that I bought "A Place of Greater Safety" Hilary Mantel. What a load of utter rubbish. I have spent hours reading about nothing. I cannot think of reading anything more boring unless I was made to read the whole years script of "Eastenders", I came very near to cutting my wrists. I accept that I am of low education and inteligence, but never in my 50 odd years of reading have I been so bored. I felt like writing about a week of my life as it sounded exciting compaired to the lives of Danton,Robespierre and Desmoulins. If there lives was as boring as portrayed in this book its no wonder they chopped peoples heads off. It would make for some excitement.

It sounds even worse than a book about the bowel habits of the Hermit crab! I do hope someone was able to talk you down...

Do you know that there's a forum called book barbeque? You can go there to officially consign a book which you can't stand to the virtual barbie. It sounds like you might enjoy a visit there as well as venting here!
