That's what I was wondering ,too!
What have you been reading lately? I'm 120 pages into "The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo" and like it a lot so far. I also started "Robinson Crusoe" yesterday for the Fifty Book Dates group; so far, that's ok too.
Just wish I could read a bit quickerSmile

Have been reading The Virago Book of Christmas...lots of short stories by women from now and many years ago. Pretty good variety.

I've just finished reading "Death of a Hollow Man" by Caroline Graham. The Midsomer Murders is based on the series of books by Caroline Graham so if you've seen any of that T.V. series you'll have some idea about the books. A light whodunit - an easy entertaining read.

May I recommend "Wishin' and Hopin'" by Wally Lamb...a funny and heart-warming story for any season.

For thoroughly not dull reading... recommend the Stieg Larsson books: the Girl with the Dragon Tatto etc

I finished it(Anna Karenina) a couple weeks ago and I consider it an accomplishment since it wasn't overly enjoyable. can't believe it's considered such a great book. Very dull.

Have put The Hungry Ghosts on my to read list, so shall keep an eye open for it.Am reading"Men Without Women" by Ernest Hemingway for another group, but am not keen on it. I could do with some notes about the historical background to some of the stories - it was published in the 1920s and some of his references are obscure. I'm also reading "Wideacre" and enjoying it. I've read one of Phillipa Gregory's Tudor novels and also "The Wise Woman"- shall definitely read more. What's everyone else reading at the moment?

I just finished The Hungry Ghosts, it was absolutely wonderful. One of those books that you can't hardly put down and is so heartbreaking but you can't quit reading it.

A History of Modern Britain

A History of Modern Britain by Andrew Marr

Average rating:   (read by 1 members)

"A History of Modern Britain" confronts head-on the victory of shopping over politics. It tells the story of how the great political visions of New Jerusalem or a second Elizabethan Age, rival idealisms, came to be defeated by a culture of consumerism, celebrity and self-gratification. In each decade, political...
