Born in Kenya in 1954, Philippa Gregory moved to England with her family and was educated in Bristol and at the National Council for the training of Journalist in Cardiff. She worked as a senior reportor on the Portsmouth News, and as a journalist and producer for BBC radio. Philippa earned her doctorate in 18th Century literature from Edinburgh University. Her research and knowledge of 18th Century gothic literature, led her to write her bestselling trilogy: Wideacre a gripping story about the love of land and incest, followed by The Favoured Child and Meridon. The Lacey trilogy was followed by The Wise Woman set against the Reformation. For her novel, A Respectable Trade, Philippa used her knowledge of her home tome Bristol and the Slave trade to write the only modern novel to explore the terrible human cost of slavery in England. The novel was adapted by Philippa for an acclaimed four part drama series for BBC television and her script was nominated for a BAFTA. Philippa's runaway best seller is The Other Boleyn Girl, now a film of the same name starring Scarlett Johannsson and Natalie Portman. This was followed by the success of other Tudor novels including The Queen's Fool, which remained in the UK Top Twenty bestsellers list for 20 weeks.
